Unpacking the SWP with David Renton

The SWP are a pervasive force in British anti-establishment politics, protests, trade unions, and the ‘Left’ broadly, but not everyone knows who they are and why they are a problem.

In 2013 the organisation was rocked to its core by the so-called 'Comrade Delta' scandal - the revelation that one of the party’s leaders had raped a fellow member and that his friends and allies in the leadership of the organisation had covered it up and then subsequently, demeaned and humiliated the victim in the course of an investigation which eventually cleared him of wrong doing (wrongly in the eyes of many members).

David Renton is a barrister, historian and former SWP member who has a forthcoming book about the case. He joins us to talk about case and the place of the SWP on the British Left.
