The Left and Right: Wings of Capital?

Fyfe Hall, Trinity Centre

Saturday, 17th May 16:00 – 17:10

Communism is not left wing! - This would be a confusing statement assuming the language of typical political discourse, but developing an understanding of why this is the case is essential for all would be revolutionaries. In this session we'll develop an understanding of the left and right as the mediating and repressive arms respectively of the capitalist political machine, that together function to recuperate and smash the political activity of the proletariat, the propertyless working class strata that Marx identified as possessing a unique potential to overthrow capitalist social relations. For the proletariat to fulfil its historical potential it must assert its goals and activity independently from the entire capitalist political spectrum that would otherwise disrupt, dilute, and deflect its activity.

Format: A theory heavy session, we will be looking at and discussing both historical and contemporary examples of the left and right collaborating against proletarian emancipation ending in group discussion and Q&A.
