How We Work

Bristol Transformed is organised by many volunteers who work year-round to deliver socialist political education. Bristol Transformed is made up of a committee, organisers, working groups and other volunteers.

Committee

Bristol Transformed has a committee who decides the political direction, strategy, and goals of the organisation, and ensures that we stay true to our statement of Core Political Values.

The Committee is responsible for making sure that:

  • BT delivers a high quality of socialist education
  • Working Groups are meeting regularly and have enough members
  • BT is sustainable in terms of people: organisers are learning new skills, enjoying being involved, not becoming burnt out, etc.
  • BT is financially sustainable & complying with the law

The committee has no fixed term. Changes to committee membership will require voting in or out by the committee, or for members to voluntarily stand down.

Organisers

Organisers are people who take on roles for Bristol Transformed which involve a degree of responsibility but who are not part of the committee (i.e. anyone taking part in a working group, or planning a festival session or year-round education event). They will work with committee members to develop and deliver the festival and other events.

Working groups

Most BT organisers will be in a working group. Working groups plan and organise the festival and our year-round education events. Working groups are generally sovereign decision-making bodies with regards to their own areas of responsibility.

We have joint working group meetings once per month during the festival organising period (generally September to May), where all working groups will meet at the same time and place.

There are 4 BT working groups:

Education

The Education group is responsible for ensuring Bristol Transformed delivers high quality, engaging and accessible, Marxist education. They are responsible for the festival programme oversight.

Outreach

The Outreach group is responsible for ensuring Bristol Transformed is building strong mutual connections with our partners, and promoting the festival online and through media organisations.

Logistics

The Logistics group is responsible for keeping track of everything and everyone to keep us running smoothly. The team develops processes and functions with Bristol Transformed and helps everyone use these in a unified way. They are responsible for liaising with any venues we are using and for managing volunteers.

Year-round Education

The Year-Round Education group organises our regular education events that take place year-round outside of the festival. They do everything that Education, Outreach and Logistics do for our regular events. You can find more information about our year-round events here.

Volunteers

Bristol Transformed would not function without volunteers. They are essential to us running the festival each year.

Volunteers are people who are working with Bristol Transformed but are not leading on any work or expected to give directions to any other volunteers (e.g. as a steward at the festival).

---------------------------------------

We expect everyone who is involved in Bristol Transformed, from committee members to volunteers to be good comrades, show solidarity with one another, be supportive, and treat each other as equals. We will be accountable to one another, put in the work, and always act towards meeting our shared goals, which includes our Core Political Values.

If anyone associated with Bristol Transformed is not to be abiding by the core values as outlined in the Bristol Transformed Statement of Purpose and Core Political Values or has breached Bristol Transformed’s bullying and harassment policy, confidentiality policy, whistleblowing policy or safeguarding policy, please get in touch with a member of our committee who will take action.

We also have a safeguarding email if you would prefer to get in touch with our safeguarding officer: safeguarding@bristoltransformed.co.uk
