What do we do about the crisis in SEND? (NEU)

The neoliberal education system, with its focus on competition and individualism, creates and perpetuates the SEND crisis (Special educational needs and disability). In this interactive session, local NEU educators and activists will explore specifically where the problems come from by looking at the deficit model of disability, the specific local authority structures where the (lack of) funding comes from and discuss where educators and students have fought back and won, showing that the system we have isn’t the only one possible. Format: A mixture of NEU speakers, questions to the floor, and audience discussions with the people on your table.
